The members of the Will County Threshemen’s Association continue to share their interest and passion for steam engines, tractors, and engines. Annually, we operate our show in late July so that you, our visitors, can see what the engines looked like many years ago, and how equipment has changed and farming practices modernized. Our area has a rich agricultural history; we invite you here to the
Round Barn Farm in Manhattan to come and share it.
Our Club has been in existence for fifty years. Threshing groups, though, harken back to the early 1900’s when the threshing circle traveled farm to farm to thresh grain. Many hands were needed to operate the huge steam engines. Everyone on the farm would heed the call when they heard, “The threshers are coming!”
Today, our members include descendants of some of the original club founders, as well as steamer/tractor owners and enthusiasts. You are also invited to join us, too, at our monthly meetings, the second Thursday of the month. |
